Welcome Delegates!

It is my honor to invite and welcome you to the 19^th Annual University of British Columbia Model United Nations Assembly. Hosted in Vancouver, our conference has been put together through a dedicated and impassioned UBC secretariat as well as volunteers from throughout the lower mainland. Our mission is to provide you with a stimulating, challenging and exciting conference that promises to test your knowledge and encourages your level of diplomacy to grow.  We hope that you come away from this conference with not only a greater understanding of the United Nations and the country you may choose to represent, but also that you gain new friendships and possibly an insight to your future.

I had my first experience with Model UN in 2009, volunteering as an unsuspecting freshman.  Immediately, I was addicted! The level of debate in the committees combined with the professionalism the delegates brought to the conference was overwhelming. I held my first secretariat position last year as Director of Volunteers and attended three different Model UN conferences in Canada and the US as a delegate and also as a committee director. I am more than honored to hold the position of Secretary General and am aiming to do justice to the incredible legacy UBC Model UN has left not only within UBC but also with all of the delegates, volunteers, faculty and secretariats over the years.

UBC Model United Nations is designed to accommodate both first time delegates and those with a significant amount of Model UN experience. Promising great debate, we are introducing a NATO committee as well as an African Union committee but of course keeping classic committees such as the World Health Organization and the General Assembly, which at this conference will be the 1^st plenary focusing on disarmament.
